With over 17 years of legal experience and a background in both education and public service, LaShawn Riggans is the right candidate for the job. A Kennesaw State University alumna and Florida Coastal School of Law graduate, Riggans began her career as an Assistant State Attorney in Florida, moving on to become Deputy County Attorney in Leon County. Recently, she joined Nabors, Giblin, & Nickerson, P.A. as Of Counsel. Committed to community and legal service, Riggans has been an adjunct professor, a volunteer with Teen Court, and a mentor to law students. She serves on the Florida Bar Professional Ethics Committee and contributes to her community as an ordained pastor and life coach, helping others build resilience and overcome challenges. Her dedication has earned her multiple accolades, including the 2023 Rose Deeb Kitchen Award and recognition as one of the “25 Women You Need to Know” by the Tallahassee Democrat in 2019. A proud military veteran and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Riggans embodies a blend of legal acumen, leadership, and community service that Leon County needs.
"Family is important to me. I love spending time with family, friends, and my dogs. Family extends far beyond bloodlines to me, it's that core group of people that you want to protect, make proud, you want to cheer on their successes and they are right there to do the same for you. I am so blessed to have those relationships and I cherish them. They are a significant part of who I am, and why I do what I do. As a judge you must understand your role. That the decisions you make have far reaching impacts, well beyond the walls of the courtroom. You must be fair, just, present, impartial, and respectful.
As a mother, pastor, veteran, friend, and neighbor I also believe having a strong community is essential. It is a foundational building block. A strong community fosters confidence, a sense of purpose and belonging, it builds relationships, and inspires. Trust and confidence in those in leadership positions play a significant role in building a strong community. We have a voice! It's our vote. To strengthen our community takes commitment and a leader with a servants heart."
